I am Susan, mom to seven children ages 17 to 38, mom-in-law to four wonderful sons and daughters, and Mamma to eleven beautiful grandchildren. I worked a few years teaching, and educating my older children in public school. After many struggles and disappointments, I decided to stay home and teach my younger children at home. I wanted to give them a strong foundation in reading and math…..that was over 17 years ago. All of my children, except the youngest, have gone on to higher education, jobs and families. I love children and I love teaching, and with only one child left at home, I am excited to provide a place in my Christian home, where children can receive a good solid phonics-based education in a loving environment, and since the classes are limited to 6 children, it is easy to personalize each child’s learning, and to be personally involved with all of the children. My daughter, Nicole works with me as a teacher, (her son is a student). Her love for children and teaching is as strong as mine, so it gives me great pleasure to work with her daily. My college-age son helps out whenever he is available, and of course my youngest son likes to assist with computer time, recess, gym, snacks, and field trips. My 16 year old granddaughter is our newest “teacher’s aid”, she loves to help out in class, at centers, field trips, reading groups, and especially with arts and crafts, bulletin boards, and organizing. My youngest son and granddaughter are using American School of Correspondence courses for their High School Diplomas. Whenever extra help is needed, I call on my friend, Ms Shannon to help out. When I am not teaching, I enjoy my family and the many activities a large family creates. |
